FDR Parenting Mediation

Separation can be an emotionally challenging time for both you and your children. We offer a quick, cost-effective alternative to court proceedings, helping you make important decisions about parenting arrangements that prioritise the well-being of your family. We provide a safe, confidential, and reliable service tailored to meet your family’s unique needs.

To ensure your arrangements truly reflect your family’s best interests, we offer child-inclusive family dispute resolution services as an option. This approach ensures that children’s voices are heard and their needs prioritised, fostering an environment where their perspectives are central to family decision-making. By including children’s voices in the process, we help families reach balanced, sustainable agreements that support the whole family.

What’s the process for Parenting Mediation?

Step 1 – Individual Intake

In this confidential one-on-one session, you’ll have the chance to share your family’s unique circumstances, your children’s needs, and any concerns you may have. This 1.5-hour session helps you understand the mediation process and provides a safe space to begin exploring potential solutions.

After your intake, we’ll invite the other parent to participate, and if they’re ready to proceed, we’ll arrange their intake. You’re also welcome to share our information with the other parent at any time to see if they’d be open to moving forward.

Optional – Child Inclusive Mediation (CIP)

If both parents agree, we can incorporate Child Inclusive Mediation (CIP). This allows a trained Child Consultant to meet with your children in a supportive environment, listen to their thoughts and feelings, and then provide feedback during the mediation. This process helps both parents gain a deeper understanding of their children’s perspective, which can inform decisions that are best for their well-being.

If you think Child Inclusive Mediation (CIP) might be helpful for your family, we’d love to talk about it more during your intake session. Please also explore our blog to learn more about it: How child-inclusive mediation (CIP) supports children’s best interests

Step 2 – Mediation Conference

Once both parents have completed their intake sessions (and, if applicable, the CIP process), we’ll schedule your Mediation Conference.

      • If CIP is included, the conference will begin with a Child Consultant feedback session, offering professional insights and, where appropriate, their recommendations.
      • Mediation sessions typically last half a day, with flexibility to meet your family’s needs. You can choose from online, in-person, or a hybrid format, where participants can be in the same room or in separate rooms.

After mediation, we provide a complimentary summary of agreements. If both parents agree, this summary can be documented into a formalised agreement such as a parenting plan or consent orders.
